Samsung’s third Unpacked event in less than two months, brings us the Galaxy S20 FE.
Now this phone is basically a “Galaxy S20 Lite” but Samsung decided to go with “Fan Edition” as it was dictated by the fans. Or as Samsung told us, “for the fans, formed by the fans”.
Galaxy S20 FE brings flagship features at a lower price
The Galaxy S20 FE starts at $699, which really blurs the lines between the Galaxy A71 and the Galaxy S20 (moreso the Galaxy A71, which is $599 and also has 5G). But the thought here, according to Samsung, is giving users more flagship features at a price that isn’t $999.
So with the Galaxy S20 FE, Samsung decided to focus on a few key areas. The display, 5G, performance and battery. These aren’t just random areas either. Samsung did research, and asked Galaxy S20 buyers why they chose it over the many other devices on the market. Number one was the display, followed by 5G, performance and battery – in that order.
And that’s where Samsung focused.
Giving this new, cheaper smartphone, a pretty decently sized display. It has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. Similar to the rest of the Galaxy S20 lineup. It also has support for mmWave and Sub-6 5G. As well as the Snapdragon 865 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Rounding out the specs, there is a 4500mAh capacity battery inside.
Galaxy S20 FE comes in six colors: Cloud Navy, Cloud Red, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud White and Cloud Orange.
Flagship camera, with a better version of Space Zoom
Samsung kept the flagship camera experience on this device. So it is sporting a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and a 12-megapixel main sensor, as well as a 8-megapixel telephoto lens.
Instead of using a sensor crop for the Space Zoom at up to 30X on the Galaxy S20 FE, Samsung opted to do it via optical zoom. So this device can do 3x optical zoom, and using digital zoom, it can get to 30x. Which should, in theory anyways, get you better results than what the Galaxy S20+ offered at 30x.
On the front, there’s a big upgrade actually. It features a 32-megapixel sensor, which is better than what most of the other flagships Samsung has launched this year has.
When can I buy the Galaxy S20 FE?
