One of the cool features of having a Google TV and an Android smartphone is the fact that you can control it from your smartphone. So if you’re one that loses your remote control often, this is a really great feature for you. And Google makes it super simple to set up and use whenever you need to.

In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through how to set it up, and add it to your Quick Settings so you can use it all the time.

How to use your Android smartphone as a remote for your Google TV

There are two ways that you can use your Android smartphone as a remote for your Google TV. And we will be going over both of them. One method is through the Google TV app, while the other is through the Quick Settings on your smartphone.

Remote Control through the Google TV app

First, you will want to open the Google TV app on your smartphone.

Now, in the lower-right hand corner, you’ll see a button that looks like a remote. Tap on that.

Now, it’ll ask you to select a device. If you have more than one Google TV device in your home, you will want to select the correct one.

Next, it’s going to pair with that TV, and ask for the pair code on your TV. Enter that into the app.

And you’re all set. You now have a functioning remote on your Android smartphone that you can use to control your TV. You have the D-Pad front-and-center, with the back, home and Google Assistant buttons at the bottom and a power button at the top.

Remote Control through the Quick Settings

Perhaps the easier way to use a remote control on your Android smartphone is through the Quick Settings. After you have done the initial setup steps above, you can then follow the instructions below.

Pull down your Quick Settings and tap on the Pencil icon in the left-hand corner.

Next, Find the “TV Remote” tile and drag it up into the Quick Settings, to where you want it. Whether that’s on the first page, second, third or later on.

Next tap on the back arrow in the upper left-hand corner.

Now you can simply tap on that remote icon in your Quick Settings at any time to open the Remote and control your TV from your Android smartphone. Talk about easy.
