LG CX OLED TV

smart tv gift guide

For those that love a good OLED TV, the LG CX is a really good option, and the latest from its OLED lineup. The LG CX comes in sizes of 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches. So you can get a somewhat small TV, or a pretty massive one. Which will work well in your living room, bedroom or even as a monitor.

With OLED, you're getting more true-to-life colors on this TV. As well as deeper blacks. But there is the threat of burn-in. Thankfully, that is not as big of an issue anymore.

With the Mini-LED technology, you're getting uncompromised contrast, brightness and uniformity for some really incredible viewing. No matter what environment you put this TV in. It also has support for Dolby Vision HDR, giving you an incredible picture for content that was shot in Dolby Vision. Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have quite a bit of content in Dolby Vision.

Sony has an amazing looking OLED TV here in the A9G, and even though it is a bit more expensive than the LG CX, this one has Android TV built-in. So you're getting all of your favorite Android apps on this TV. Like Netflix, YouTube, YouTube TV, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, HBO MAX and much more.

So what makes this TV part of the Master series? Well, Sony worked with film directors to fine-tune this TV, so that you see their movies ( and TV shows) the way they intended. Thanks to OLED technology, that is easier than every. Along with the X1 Ultimate processor that is inside. Giving you pure blacks, peak brightness and natural colors.

This is also the best TV to pick up for using with the PlayStation 5. Sony has made sure that this TV works incredibly well with the PlayStation 4 and the new PlayStation 5 too. Optimizing settings, so that 4K gameplay looks amazing here.

It is a smart TV and has Android TV, so it of course has the Google Assistant. But Amazon Alexa is also available on Sony TVs. So you can choose whichever smart assistant you'd prefer to use here.

Samsung Q900TS 8K Smart TV

The Samsung Q900TS is an 8K Smart TV from the company, and it's one of the few 8K TVs you can actually buy right now. It comes in 65, 75 and 85 inches.

This is a real 8K display, and not up-sampling to 8K like some others are currently doing. Which is going to provide you with some mind-blowing sharpness and depth of real 8K with 16 times more resolution than your typical HDTV.

While it doesn't do up-sampling, it does use 8K AI Upscaling for content that is not in 8K. And that's going to be most content, because let's be real, even YouTube doesn't show content in 8K yet. It does this with the Quantum Processor 8K, which is Samsung's processor inside this TV that uses deep learning AI technology to unleash the full power of 8K on this TV.

As far as software goes, this runs on Tizen, of course. Which has most of your apps that you'd want. Like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video. It also has Amazon Alexa built-in, along with Homekit, and the iTunes store.

The Sony X900H is one of the best Android TVs you can get, without spending a boatload. And the X900H provides a really incredible experience.

It has the Triluminos display, so that you'll see exactly what the creator intended with advanced color and gradation. And it is also great for gaming, particularly with the PlayStation 4. But it is also great for the PlayStation 5 when it comes out later this month.

Finally, the Sony X900H also has Android TV built-in. That's going to give you some great apps to use for streaming. Like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and more. As well as Google Assistant being on-board.

LG Nanocell85 4K TV

LG Nanocell85 4K TV

While LG might be known for its OLED TVs, that's not the only TV that LG makes. The LG Nanocell85 makes its way onto our smart TV gift guide because it is a stunning LCD TV that doesn't cost a fortune. It starts at around $600 and goes from there. It's also available in a ton of great sizes. That includes 49, 55, 65 and 75 inches. So you can get the one that will best fit your home.

This TV does also have Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos included. Giving you an incredible looking picture, as well as incredible audio here.

It does not run on Android TV and instead uses webOS. But you can still use all of your favorite apps here. Like Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and more.

Hisense R8 4K Roku TV

The Hisense R8 is a 4K Roku TV that has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for under $500. That right there is a pretty incredible price. It comes in 55 and 65 inch models.

With Roku on-board here, you're going to get access to your favorite apps including Peacock, Netflix, Hulu and more. There's also Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant support. Along with support for Cast.

  • Price: $399
  • Where to buy: Amazon

If you're looking for an even cheaper (but still really good) Roku TV, then the TCL 5-series is a great option.

This one also has Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos included, so you're getting a really incredible picture and audio quality out of this one. But the big upgrade here is that it is QLED, instead of simply LCD. Meaning you're getting an even better picture than what the Hisense R8 is offering (and for less).

It still has Roku baked in. So you're getting all of the great apps that you know and love. Like Netflix, Hulu, Peacock, YouTube, YouTube TV, Amazon Prime Video and more. There's also Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant support available.

Hisense H9F Android TV

81LxAVh4QPL AC SL1500

The Hisense H9F is a really great Android TV – it's actually the one I have in my living room. It only comes in one size right now, 65-inch. There is a 55-inch model but it has been out of stock for months. So it's likely not coming back. 65-inches is the most popular TV size these days anyways.

This TV has Dolby Vision, giving you an incredible HDR experience. And if you don't believe me, watch any content that was shot in Dolby Vision, and you'll notice the difference. This also has Hisense's own ULED technology, giving you a vibrant display.

It has Android TV, so you're getting the big time apps like YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Showtime, Peacock, HBO MAX and so forth. It also has the Google Assistant (and Amazon Alexa) on-board.

Samsung Frame TV

71bmukMiAEL AC SL1500

The Samsung Frame TV actually comes in pretty cheap, because it can come in some pretty small sizes. From 32-inches all the way up to 75.

This is a QLED TV from Samsung, that is rather unique. It has a pretty small bezel around the sides, that is made to look like a picture frame. Hence "The Frame". So you can put it into the Frame mode and use it as a gigantic picture frame in your home. Since it is QLED, the colors are more true-to-life here, including the blacks. It's a step down from OLED, but not by much.

Samsung uses Tizen on its TVs, but you'll still get all of your favorite apps here. Like Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video.

This is the QLED TV to buy in 2020, and why it is on our smart TV gift guide. This Q80T Samsung TV is a really great option, as it has controlled backlights, that will offer a deeper contrast for richer blacks and brighter whites. It also has some insane viewing angles, so there is no glare on the display at all.

Samsung has included Quantum HDR 12X, so you're getting fine-tuned shades of cinematic color that will make the details leap off of the screen. It also has Samsung's Quantum Processor 4K, which will use deep learning AI to turn all content into 4K content. Even HD content.

There is Amazon Alexa built-in here, as well as many of your favorite apps. Like YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and much more. So that there's everything you could ever need here.
