There are a lot of earphones / headphones available out there, and it’s not always easy to find what to buy. Well, if you’re having a hard time navigating those waters, that’s what we’re here for. We’ve put together a buyer’s guide for headphones, that you can either get as a gift for someone or for yourself.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones have a rather odd name, but these are some of the best wireless headphones you can get. Not only do they look really nice, and minimalistic, but they’re extremely comfortable, and offer great active noise cancellation (Dual Noise Sensor tech). A microphone is built into the, so you can make voice calls easily. That microphone is also quite good.

Now, in addition to being able to make phone calls, Alexa voice control is also supported. You can get up to 30 hours of battery life (of use) with these headphones, while there are also touch controls included on the sides. These also come with wear detection, so the playback will pause when you take them off, and continue when you put them on.

The Apple AirPods Max are the best headphones from Apple, by far. They do offer a rather unique design, and look quite premium. They come in various color options, and are immensely comfortable to wear. On top of looking nice, and being comfortable to wear, they offer great sound quality, and are quite good for editing.

These come with an Apple-designed dynamic driver that provides high-fidelity audio. Active Noise Cancellation is also included in the package, and so is the transparency mode for hearing and interacting with the world around you. Spatial audio is also a part of the package, and so on.

The Bose QuietComfort 35 II are another high-end wireless headphones that you can get, and some of the best ones. Much like the first two pairs on the list, these are quite comfortable to wear, and offer excellent sound quality. The Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones also come with three levels of world-class noise cancellation, and are Alexa-enabled.

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 headphones are a great alternative to all three other products we’ve mentioned. These headphones work in both wired and wireless mode, and they connect via USB-C cable. They do come with a rather unique design, and are also quite comfortable.

These headphones come with 43mm drivers, and offer great noise cancellation. Its noise cancellation will actually adapt itself based on your environment. 30 hours of play time is tipped for these headphones, while they can also charge up quite fast. If you prefer the design of these headphones over the other three pairs we talked about, they are quite great in other aspects as well.

If you’re looking for a really good pair of wireless headphones, but are unwilling to pay the price tag of either of the headphones we’ve talked about, the Jabra Elite 45h may be the solution. These headphones are a bit smaller than the ones we’ve talked about thus far, but the build quality is excellent, and they look great as well.

They come with 40mm speakers, and offer up to 50 hours of use on a single charge. They offer 2-microphone call technology, and direct access to Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. You can personalize the sound on these headphones as well, while they’re extremely comfortable to wear.

We’re switching over to the truly wireless earphones now. The first pair we’ll talk about is actually one of the best. The Sony WF-100XM4 are essentially truly wireless alternatives to the Sony headphones we talked about earlier. These may be truly wireless earphones, but they do offer great sound quality.

They come with the new integrated processor V1, and support LDAC codec. Beamforming microphone and bone-conduction sensor provide clear voice detection even when there’s plenty of noise around. Speak-to-chat tech reduces volume during conversations automatically, while you can get 8 hours of run time on a single charge. They are also IPX4 certified, and offer support for Alexa.

The Google Pixel Buds A are Google’s very own TWS earbuds, and they’re quite good. They cannot measure up to the Sony WF-1000XM4, but they’re considerably more affordable. They do offer a somewhat different design, that goes for both the earbuds and the case.

These earphones will provide with up to 5 hours of play time before they’ll need a charge. They also include 12mm dynamic speaker drivers. These earbuds are also sweat and water resistant, and are quite good for working out. Adaptive Sound technology is also available here, and the sound quality is not bad at all.

The Bose QuietComfort TWS earbuds are Bose’s very own high-end TWS earbuds. They offer excellent sound, for the size, and are also easily recognizable. They do come in several different colors, and offer noise cancellation, and also an Aware Mode.

On top of that, you’ll get high-fidelity audio from these earbuds, while volume-optimized Active EQ is also included. Three sizes of StayHear Max eartips are included in the package, while you do get touch controls as well. Noise-rejecting microphones are a part of the package too, while you can get up to 6 hours of use on a single charge.

Samsung has a really compelling pair of truly wireless earbuds as well, the Samsung Buds 2. These earbuds come in various different colors, and they’re quite small. The sound is not bad at all, while these earbuds do deliver active noise cancellation, and Ambient SOund mode as well.

They are quite comfortable to wear, and there are three microphones included on each earbud. Noise reduction technology is also thrown into the mix, as are touch controls. These earbuds do hit all the right spots, they’re really good overall. They’re amongst the best options at the $150 price tag.

The Apple AirPods Pro are the very best Apple has to offer. Apple is expected to announce the AirPods Pro 2 at some point soon, but the AirPods Pro are still quite good, and not many of you will regret buying them. They’re an excellent gift for someone invested in Apple’s ecosystem, though they’re not cheap at all.

These earbuds are quite compact, as is their case. They do offer active noise cancelation, along with the Transparency mode. Three different silicon sizes are included in the box, while the earbuds are sweat and water resistant. Adaptive EQ is also included here, while you can control Siri via these earbuds.

If you need really solid earphones for working out, the Jaybird Vista are great for that purpose. These truly wireless earbuds come with “wings” for a better seal while you’re moving, and they’re also waterproof. They’re also drop-proof, by the way, and can provide you up to 6 hours of use.

The sound coming from these earbuds is quite good, while there are three different sizes of ear gels included. The company also has an app for both iOS and Android which will give you more control over the sound. You can choose between two different color variants, by the way.

The Galaxy Buds Pro are a great alternative to the Galaxy Buds 2. These are not as new as the Buds 2, but they’ve also been announced this year. They do offer really good sound, a nice compact design, and are quite comfortable to wear. They include an 11mm woofer, and a 6.5mm tweeter built into each earbud.

These earbuds are great for working out as well, as they do come with an IPX7 rating. The call quality is not bad either, while there are touch controls on each of these two earbuds. These are not the most affordable TWS earbuds on the market, but they’re considerably more affordable than some direct competitors.
