The Galaxy A53 5G is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the September 2022 Android security patch. The new premium mid-ranger that the company launched earlier this year is getting this month’s security update in the US. The update is live for both unlocked and carrier-locked units. International versions of the phone should also soon join the party.
The September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy A53 5G started rolling out to the unlocked units in the US a few days back. The update came with firmware version A536U1UES4AVH4. The carrier-locked variants followed suit earlier this week. The updated firmware version for the latter is A536USQU3AVH1. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the new software package for the phone is live on all major carrier networks, including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon, Comcast, and Xfinity Mobile.
Based on the firmware versions, this update seems to bring more than just the latest vulnerability fixes to the carrier-locked Galaxy A53 5G units. But those could be some system stability and reliability optimizations from Samsung. We don’t have any hope of the company rolling out major new features. More so because the unlocked units don’t seem to be getting anything else. Only the vulnerability fixes for this month.
Samsung has already revealed that the September SMR patches over 50 vulnerabilities. These include fixes for several Android OS bugs as well as a bunch of Galaxy-specific ones. While there aren’t as many critical fixes this month as in the past, the majority of the bugs patched were labeled to be of critical severity. The Korean firm mentions patches for issues with Video Editor, Photo Editor, System UI, Telecom application, call background provider, and many other device components.
Galaxy A53 gets the September security update in the US
All of the aforementioned privacy and security fixes are now rolling out to the Galaxy A53 5G in the US. As usual, the update will reach all eligible units within the next few days over the air (OTA). You can manually check for OTA updates from the Settings app. Scroll down to the Software update section and select the Download and install option under it. If there’s no update available, wait a few more days.
The Galaxy A53 5G will also get the Android 13 update, which will bring Samsung’s One UI 5.0 custom software. The big Android update may arrive towards the end of this year or early next year. We will let you know when it comes.
