Turns out you won’t be able to connect your Fitbit Sense 2 to WiFi, a feature that is reportedly absent from the new Versa 4 and Versa Lite Edition as well. 9To5Google points out that Fitbit’s latest smartwatches will only be able to connect via Bluetooth. Which probably means slower updates. And unfortunately, no ability to use data features unless your phone is on you and connected to the watch.
These details were found in a Fitbit help article for how to connect your Fitbit device to WiFi. The support page states that WiFi connection isn’t available on the Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Versa Lite Edition, or Fitbit Versa 4. Interestingly enough, WiFi technology is built-in to the new devices. But it’s not accessible and can’t be turned on. It’s a bit of a strange move to add the technology if there were no plans to make it a connection method.

Fitbit’s upcoming smartwatches are packed full of features. Including some notable improvements over previous models. But Fitbit is removing stuff too. In addition to lacking a WiFi connection, there will also be no offline music playback.
Or presumably no music playback or interaction of any kind for that matter. It seems that all three upcoming watches will have no support for music playback controls either. Limiting users to managing playback options directly from their connected phones.
This may not be a dealbreaker for most users since music playback is still available on a connected phone. But it’s certainly much easier to raise your wrist and hit pause or play. As opposed to pulling your phone out of your pocket and doing it there instead.
It’s also just simply odd to remove such features when past devices in the Fitbit lineup have included them. And when just about every other smartwatch out there includes them. It’s unclear why Fitbit chose to remove these features from its latest devices. But the company presumably has its reasons. Whatever they may be.
