CD Projekt Red is a pretty big company in the gaming space. It brought games like The Witcher series and CyberPunk 2077 among games. Now, the company just released a new game to PC and mobile platforms called Gwent: Rogue Mage.
So, what is Gwent: Rogue Mage about?
That’s an interesting question, as this game takes place within the Witcher lore. It takes place hundreds of years before the events of the Witcher 3, so you’d think it’s a prequel.
However, the game’s director, Vladimir Tortsov, told IGN that this isn’t an official addition to the Witcher lore. So, this is probably to give the developers more creative freedom with the game without clashing with any established Witcher lore.
Gwent: Rogue Mage follows the story of a mage named Alzur. You’ll follow him on his quest to create the first witcher. That’s going to be the main plot that you follow throughout the game.
Since this is a card game, it will be very episodic. You’ll progress through the story by defeating the enemies in individual battles.
This is a deck builder game, so you’ll battle your enemies using the selection of cards that you collect throughout the game. Each card will have a unique effect on the enemy’s cards, and vice versa. According to the game’s director, you should be looking at about 30 hours of gameplay.
How much will the game cost?
The previous Gwent game was a free-to-play title, so it might strike you as odd that Gwent: Rogue Mage costs $9.99 to download. That’s a hefty price for a mobile game, but the fact that you’re getting 30 hours of gameplay helps make up for that.
This game has an established story with a protagonist and his mission; this means that there’s an endpoint. If you pay the $10, you’re paying for a full package from beginning to end. This means that you shouldn’t expect there to be microtransactions everywhere. That’s just speculation, however.
You can download the game for Android today. The download is under 70MB, but the game may download additional files pushing it to between 1GB and 2GB.
