Samsung Rolls Out June Update To Galaxy S20 Series & Galaxy A72

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Review AM AH 12

Samsung has rolled out the June 2022 Android security patch to a couple more Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy A72 are the latest devices to pick up this month’s security update. They join a bunch of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets at the party.

The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are currently receiving the June SMR (Security maintenance Release) in Europe. SamMobile has confirmed that the latest security update is available to users in Switzerland. The rollout should soon expand to other European countries as well as markets beyond Europe. The new firmware version for the 2020 Samsung flagships is G98**XXSEFVE6.

Note that the Galaxy S20 FE isn’t part of the “S20” group that’s currently picking up this month’s security patch. The affordable Galaxy flagship was launched separately and mostly receives software updates separately too. It should join the June SMR party in the coming days or weeks.

But if you’re rocking the Galaxy A72, a premium mid-ranger launched in March last year, the June SMR may go live for you anytime now. The device is already picking up the new security update in Malaysia and Russia. The update comes with firmware version A725FXXU4BVE3. It should soon receive the latest SMR in more markets globally.

Based on the build number of the new software package, the Galaxy A72 appears to be receiving some new features and/or enhancements with the latest update. But the changelog doesn’t mention anything as such. It simply says the device is getting security fixes for this month. Speaking of which, the June SMR contains fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities from Google and Samsung. These include a bunch of critical fixes as well.

Samsung expands June security update to more Galaxy devices

Samsung began rolling out the June SMR to its devices three weeks back. It has seeded the latest security patch to almost a dozen Galaxy smartphone and tablet models so far. These include the Galaxy Tab S7, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, and a few mid-range models. The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy A72 are the newest entrants to the list.

If you’re using any of these Samsung devices, the June SMR should be available to you anytime now if it hasn’t yet. You will be notified of the OTA (over the air) rollout once it becomes available for your unit. You can also manually check for new software updates from the Settings app.
