June Update Is Rolling Out To Samsung's Galaxy Fold In The US

The Galaxy Fold is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the June 2022 Android security patch in the US. All eligible units of the original foldable are picking up the latest security update stateside. The update comes with firmware version F900U1UEU6HVF7.

The June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the first-gen Fold is available on all carrier networks in the US. We don’t have a changelog handy to confirm the contents, but the build number for the new OTA (over the air) package suggests the device is getting more than just the vulnerability fixes for the current month.

The Galaxy Fold recently received the June SMR in South Korea and that update contained a lot more. The original foldable finally gained Smart Widgets, which we were expecting to arrive as part of One UI 4.1 but not to be. This feature declutters your home screen by intelligently combining identical widgets in one place.

Additionally, the Galaxy Fold gained the “Disallow all” option on the settings page where you can control the installation of apps from unknown sources. This option blocks you from APK sideloading. A new management feature further lets you identify and remove malicious apps that you may be unknowingly sideloading.

We expect the foldable to receive these changes with the latest update in the US as well, along with some bug fixes. That’s on top of the June SMR that patches more than five dozen vulnerabilities. The majority of these flaws affect Android in general, but some of them are specific to Samsung devices. A few critical vulnerabilities had the potential to cause extensive damage to the target if exploited in the wild.

The Galaxy Fold receives the June update in the US

Samsung has been rolling out the June SMR for over a month now. Most flagship models have already received the latest security update, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 2. The original Galaxy Fold also last week started picking it up. The initial rollout was limited to South Korea but it has now reached the US too. Over the next few days, the international versions of the foldable should also receive this update.

As usual, this update will roll out in batches to eligible units. So you may not receive it immediately. Watch out for a notification prompting you to download the OTA package. Tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions. You may also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
