For a little while, we’ve known about the upcoming Sonos budget soundbar. Dubbed the Sonos Ray, it’s the new entry-level soundbar to up your TV-watching game. While we previously got our first look at the device, the price still remained a mystery. However, Sonos just announced the official price for the Ray, and it falls in line with the leaks.
The Sonos Ray is set to launch at a price of $279. The leaks previously pointed to the speaker costing $249, so it’s launching at about 12% more than what we expected. This might throw off some potential customers, but not many.
The Sonos Ray has a price and a launch date
Now that you know how much this speaker is going to cost, it’s also important to know when it’s going to actually come out. The Sonos Ray will officially go on sale on June 7th. That’s not too much of a wait, to be honest.
The Sonos Ray is going to be a watered-down version of the more expensive soundbars. The more expensive soundbars are the Sonos Beam and the Sonos Arc. These more expensive soundbars offer a more premium experience with features like voice assistants, an HDMI port, Dolby Atmos, and others.
The Sonos Ray will have one job: play sounds; that’s it. You won’t find any fancy features or bells and whistles with this soundbar. There’s an optical port to connect the speaker to the device and that’s pretty much it. Basically, the Sonos Arc is like a pair of expensive Bluetooth headphones, and the Ray is a basic pair of wired headphones.
The Sonos Ray itself is a bit smaller than the other soundbars, and it’s expected to have fewer drivers. Based on information from The Verge, there are only four drivers producing the sound. Two drivers are closer to the middle and the other drivers are on the outer edges. If you’re looking to get more punch from your TV-watching experience, then you might want to consider picking up a Sonos Ray.
