A tipster, Digital Chat Station, has just mentioned both the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs, as he shared their launch timeframes. He said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is coming in Q3 this year, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will follow in Q4 this year.

That is all expected. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ did get delayed a bit, but it’s still coming in Q3. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was always expected to arrive in Q4, and chances are it will launch towards the very end of the year (late November, early December).

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+’s model number is SM8475, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 hides behind the SM8550 model number. That’s basically everything he shared via Weibo.

So, it looks like Qualcomm will launch two flagship-grade processors this year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the company’s current-gen flagship, launched at the end of November last year.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will deliver better thermals, and it will be manufactured by TSMC. That chip is also expected to offer better performance overall, and yes, better thermal management has a lot to do with that.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is an excellent processor, but it does get quite toasty. That’s not a problem for phones that offer proper thermal management. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will handle all that better, from the get-go.

Now, in regards to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, well, we don’t have any information at this point. Details regarding that SoC will likely start coming in soon, in the coming months. It is expected to require less battery power to function, while offering notably better performance across the board.

Quite a few smartphones were expected to utilize the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ this year. The thing is, that SoC’s release got postponed, which may affect the sheer number of devices that will be fueled by it.
