Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Beats Its Siblings In Energy Efficiency Tests

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to arrive towards the end of this year, and it seems like it did great in energy efficiency tests. This information comes from Ice Universe, a well-known tipster.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 did great in energy efficiency tests, it seems

The tipster says that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 did really well in initial energy efficiency tests. He says that it did better than the Snapdragon 888, 8 Gen 1, and 8+ Gen 1 chips. So, better than three of its predecessors.

We’re wondering how much better, though, as the tipster didn’t really clarify that. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 did considerably better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. So, we’re wondering how much of an improvement will its successor deliver.

In any case, the tipster also highlighted that the gap between the Exynos and Snapdragon chips will only grow. He believes that Exynos chips don’t really have a reason to exist at this point.

Those chips have been lagging behind their Snapdragon counterparts for years. The Exynos 2200 is an improvement compared to its predecessors, quite a large one, but it’s still not at the same level as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Samsung is allegedly working on a Galaxy-exclusive SoC

On top of that, Samsung is allegedly working on a new chip that will be exclusive to its smartphones. That chip is not expected to arrive anytime soon, as we’re allegedly years away from its launch.

It is highly unlikely that Samsung will stop manufacturing Exynos chips, though. The company partnered up with AMD for the Exynos 2200, and we’re expecting to see further improvements with the Exynos 2300, or whatever its name ends up being.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will likely be announced at the end of November. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 arrived on November 30 during the Snapdragon Tech Summit, and the same is expected to happen with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 this year.
