Samsung last week started rolling out the May 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. The LTE variant of the phone is now getting the new security update as well. The latest SMR (Security maintenance Release) is also widely rolling out to the Galaxy A53 5G.

The May SMR for the Galaxy S20 FE LTE is already available over the air (OTA) to users in several countries across the world, including Brazil, Chile, Panama, and Vietnam. It should reach more regions in the coming days. The new firmware version for the phone is G780GXXS3CVD7.

As of this writing, the rollout appears to be limited to the Galaxy S20 FE LTE devices powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 processor. But those running on Samsung’s in-house Exynos 990 chipset should soon pick up the new SMR as well. The firmware version may vary a little, but that hardly matters.

Samsung is also now widely rolling out the May SMR to the Galaxy A53 5G. The newly-launched premium mid-range smartphone is getting the update in a bunch of European countries, SamMobile has confirmed. The updated firmware version for the phone is A536BXXU2AVD7. It has also received the latest security patch in the US and Asia over the past couple of weeks.

Along with the May SMR, the Galaxy A53 5G is also receiving some camera-related optimizations and bug fixes. The phone is relatively new and you can expect Samsung to make more such optimizations as it improves the reliability of the early software build the device shipped with.

As far as the content of the May security patch is concerned, Samsung says its Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets are getting fixes for around 50 vulnerabilities with the latest release. The majority of those issues were found on Google’s version of Android. But the Korean firm has patched quite a few Galaxy-exclusive security flaws as well.

Samsung treats more Galaxy S20 FE LTE and Galaxy A53 5G users with May SMR

Samsung began rolling out the May SMR to its devices in the last week of April. Dozens of Galaxy smartphone and tablet models have since received the new security update. But, if you’re using the Galaxy S20 FE LTE or the Galaxy A53 5G and haven’t yet picked up the latest SMR, you might soon. Watch out for a notification about the OTA (over the air) rollout in the coming days. You can also manually check for updates from your phone’s Settings app.
