Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant is a worthy opponent to Google Assistant and Siri. Because of this, Fossil and Skagen entered a partnership to have Alexa on some of their smartwatches. After a long wait, the voice assistant is finally available to use.
Right now, Wear OS watches have Google Assistant preinstalled. This assistant is a really powerful tool, but Amazon Alexa is still nothing to sneeze at. This is why it’s been a popular alternative to Google Assistant and Siri despite not having a dedicated smartphone platform to reside on.
Amazon Alexa is now on select Fossil and Skagen smartwatches
A couple of months ago, we got news that Amazon’s Alexa was going to be available on some Fossil and Skagen Wear OS watches. When the Skagen Falster Gen 6 launched, users noticed the Alexa app on it. Tapping on the app would bring up the text “Coming Soon”. That was a little frustrating considering that neither company gave a definite launch date.
Now, three months later, Alexa finally arrived on those watches. When you activate the assistant for the first time, you’ll need to perform the ritual: grant it access to your microphone and other parts of your watch.
After that, in order to use Alexa, you’ll need to go onto your paired smartphone and download the Alexa app. Once you install it, you’ll need to go into the “Devices” section and add the smartwatch. After that, you’ll be able to use Alexa.
There are just a few limitations
According to 9To5Google, Alexa runs well on the allotted Skagen and Fossil smartwatches. There are just a few limitations to be aware of. Firstly, you can’t access Alexa using voice commands. You’ll need to do so manually on the smartwatch. The app will recommend you use a shortcut button to make the process faster.
Also, when you look up results or a search, Alexa won’t give you verbal feedback. The results will appear as text on the screen, so you’ll need to read the results. Other than that, using Alexa on these smartwatches should be a joy.
