With all the pandemonium with CES going on, it helps to cool down with a little bit of small news. As found by Android Police, there’s a way to play Prince of Persia on your Android phone’s browser. Since it’s an older game, you shouldn’t really have trouble playing it.
You can play Prince of Persia on your Android phone
If you think we’re talking about the games that were released for the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube, you’d be mistaken. The version you can play is the version that launched back in 1989. While not as flashy as later installments, the original game was revolutionary.
It really stunned audiences with its realistic character movements. This was long before “Mo-cap” suits were a thing, so the developer used rotoscoping to achieve these realistic movements.
I tried it out and it runs perfectly smooth using Google Chrome on my Pixel 6. While you can play it on a phone, you can also use a computer to achieve the same effect. The whole game is contained on the browser, so there’s no need to download or install anything.
How to get to the game
It’s easy as pie to get Prince of Persia running on your Android phone. Firstly, you should go to Oliver Klemenz ‘s Github. There, you’ll see all the typical files, however, if you just want to get to the game, scroll down. You’ll see a “Play Online” section and a “Play on Mobile” section. Tap on the link just below the latter section and you’ll be taken directly to the game.
How to play the game
You’ll be using simple tap and hold gestures. Imagine the screen as a giant D-pad. You’ll press on the left and right sides of the screen to run. Tapping the upper left and right corners of the screen will cause your character to jump forward.
To do a standing jump, tap the top of the screen in the center, and tap the bottom of the screen to duck and climb down. This is a challenging game to get the hang of, so expect to die a couple of times.
