While there’s plenty of talk about OnePlus’ flagship offerings, like the recently announced OnePlus 10 Pro, there’s also some bad news coming our way. The company has said that devices like the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T will no longer receive software support.

This means that the recent November 2021 security patches are the last official updates they’ll ever see. Of course, users can continue to flash custom ROMs as long as they want to.

“After 3 major updates and more than 3 years of updates, around 60 Closed Beta builds and over 30 Open Beta builds it’s now time to close a chapter and announce the end of OnePlus 6 and 6T official software support,” a OnePlus staff member said in a forum post (via XDA).

Newer OnePlus devices would receive at least three years of software updates

Devices like the OnePlus 9 would receive three years of Android updates and four years of security patches. The company announced its new update policy in July last year. It’s now fairly clear that it doesn’t apply to older OnePlus devices.

For example, the OnePlus 7 would only receive two major Android upgrades and three years of security updates. With the OnePlus 6 lineup out of the company’s software support cycle now, it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus 7 series would see a similar fate sometime next year.

OnePlus’ recent Android 12 rollout for the OnePlus 9 was marred by bugs, forcing the company to pause the process. Samsung also went through similar issues with its Android 12 update for devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. As for OnePlus, it didn’t take long for the company to fix the issues and resume the Android 12 roll out again.

Recently, the Chinese manufacturer took the wraps off the OnePlus 9RT and the OnePlus 10 Pro. The latter is only available in China at the moment. But we’ve now learned that the device could reach global markets by the end of March this year. To refresh your memory, the latest OnePlus flagship broke cover last week featuring a 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. It also packs a 5,000mAh battery with a ridiculous 80W fast wired charging support and 50W wireless charging.
