The Snapdragon 898 is Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC, and its launch event has been announced. The company has confirmed that its Tech Summit 2021 will take place between November 30 and December 2 this year.
The Snapdragon 898 launch event has been announced
That being said, it’s Qualcomm’s custom to introduce its next-gen flagship SoCs on the very first day of its Tech Summit every year. If that ends up happening this year, the Snapdragon 898 will drop on November 30.
Now, based on the rumors and leaks we’ve seen thus far, this chip will arrive with an “SM8450” model number. It will use Arm’s latest designs, by the way, which is to be expected.
Based on a recent leak, this chip will arrive with one main core, the Cortex X2, which will be clocked at 3GHz. Three mid-cores will be included, the Cortex-A710 ones, most likely, and they will be clocked at 2.5GHz.
The remaining four cores are reserved for efficiency cores, the Cortex-A510. Those cores will be clocked at 1.79GHz, if a recent rumor is to be believed. In regards to the GPU, it seems likely Qualcomm will utilize the Adreno 730 here.
This will be a 4nm processor
For those of you who are wondering, this will be a 4nm chip, as it’s based on Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process. It should be more efficient than the Snapdragon 888, but not by much. The same goes for its speed as well.
Chances are that Xiaomi will be the first one to introduce a smartphone powered by this chip. The Xiaomi 12 series will likely become the first to utilize it. We’re not sure if the Xiaomi 12 will be the first series to become available, though, it remains to be seen.
Do note that the Snapdragon 898 name has not been confirmed just yet. That is the rumored name, and one that appeared a ton of times thus far. Therefore, we’re going with the flow. We’ll have to wait for Qualcomm’s official confirmation in order to be sure, though, of course.
