Samsung could release the stable Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update to the Galaxy S21 series very soon. A Beta Operations Manager on the company’s community forums in South Korea has confirmed that the devices will not receive beta builds anymore. The fourth One UI 4.0 beta, which Samsung released earlier this month, was the last. The next release will be the stable update.
This announcement doesn’t come as a surprise to us though. We were already expecting this. Samsung implemented the final Android 12 AOSP (Android Open Source Project) in the third One UI 4.0 beta build for the Galaxy S21 series. The fourth beta release was all about bug fixes. So quite clearly, the company is done adding new features or making changes and improvements. All that remains now is some bug fixing and optimizations. And that’s precisely what the Samsung representative has announced (via).
There will be no fifth beta build coming to the Galaxy S21 series. Work is currently underway to fix any remaining bugs in the fourth beta build and to make last-minute optimizations. The Korean firm may release a hotfix update if necessary, but the next big update for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra will be the stable One UI 4.0.
We still don’t have a timeframe as to when the update might arrive. But all things are now pointing towards a release before the end of this month. We will make sure to let you know as and when we have more information.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 foldables will be the next
Samsung has been almost a month quicker in releasing the One UI 4.0 beta this year than the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 last year. The Korean behemoth launched the beta program for the Galaxy S21 series in September. Last month, it opened the program to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldables. So after the Galaxy S21 trio, the new foldables will likely receive the stable One UI 4.0 update next. At this rate, we would not be surprised if the update arrives next month.
The Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 flagships are expected to follow the foldable duo. The two 2020 Samsung flagship series joined the One UI 4.0 beta party earlier this week. The Korean firm appears to have pulled the beta update for the Galaxy S20 series for now, but it won’t be long before the update goes live again. We will keep you updated.
