TikTok has been utterly crushing it for the last two years, basically. The pandemic did not exactly affect it negatively, in fact, it may have even benefited its growth, as people were spending a lot of time at home. Jon Erlichman published some info from Sensor Tower, and TikTok remained the most downloaded app in the world in September this year.

TikTok remains the most downloaded app in the world

We’re already used to it, though, as it has been the case for a long time. With the exception of a couple of months since January 2020, TikTok has been the most downloaded app all the time.

The months in which it was not the most downloaded app around were April 2020, November 2020, and January 2021, that’s it. The remaining 18 months were under complete dominance of TikTok.

TikTok is filled with short-form videos of all types. You can find some comedy stuff, some cooking videos, tech-based content, and so on. Basically anything you can think of.

TikTok created quite a few stars in the last couple of years

Quite a few new creators managed to succeed on TikTok in those two years as well. Khaby Lame, for example, managed to become a true star on TikTok in a rather short time span. He became the second most-followed person on TikTok, with 115 million followers, second only to Charli D’Amelio.

That was only one example, there are quite a few of them out there. TikTok created quite a few new stars, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. People are using it more and more, it would seem, the downloads are not exactly slowing down.

It remains to be seen for how long will TikTok keep this momentum. It may lose the top spot for a month, but then it’s usually back on top. Even in the months when it was not number 1, it was second-placed.

This information applies to both platforms, by the way, it would seem, both iOS and Android. We’re waiting for a new report from the Sensor Tower to see what the situation looks like when the remaining spots are concerned (globally).
