Whenever you search up a route on Google Maps, you’re sometimes given several options with the quickest one being highlighted. Now, Google announced that it wants to use its map service to cut down on our carbon footprint. Google Maps will now show the most fuel-efficient routes when you search.

More fuel-efficient routes on Google Maps can eliminate a million tons of carbon, Says Google.

Needless to say, we can all do a lot more to help cut down on the CO2 in our atmosphere. Because of this, Google Maps will now give people suggested routes based on how much fuel they’ll burn on the way; or better yet, how much fuel they won’t burn.

By Google’s calculations, by simply giving more fuel-efficient routes, the app will cut back on at least a million tons of carbon going into the air every year. This is roughly the equivalent of taking 200,000 cars and trucks off the streets.

Google didn’t explain how it determines which route consumes less fuel, but hopefully, the results will speak for themselves.

Users in the US should be seeing the more fuel-efficient routes in Google Maps as early as today. Europe will see this feature next year.

The Pixel 6 is rumored to have a 6.4-inch 1080p+ OLED display that could run at 120Hz. The Pro variant is rumored to have a 6.7-inch QHD+ display that could also run at 120Hz.

The main story behind the Pixel 6 is the fact that Google will be introducing its own custom-made SoC, the Tensor chip. The company built this octa-core chip on a 5nm process. Everyone’s excited to see how it will stand up against the Snapdragon, Mediatek, and Exynos chips.

The Pixel 6 may have a dual-camera setup with a 50-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. This phone will be able to shoot 4K video up to 60fps and 1080p video up to 120fps.
