Samsung has just unveiled a new 5G midrange smartphone, the Galaxy Wide 5. The device is exclusive to SK Telecom subscribers in South Korea. It could arrive as the Galaxy F42 5G in other markets as the two devices share the same model number (SM-E426), a Bluetooth certification revealed in June. The device also shares the majority of the specs with the Galaxy A22 5G.
Samsung Galaxy Wide 5 specifications
The Galaxy Wide 5 features a 6.6-inch LCD screen with Full HD+ (1080p+) resolution. The display has sizeable bezels all around, particularly at the chin. But that’s to be expected on a low-cost phone. There’s no mention of the refresh rate, but its Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor supports display panels of up to 90Hz refresh rate.
Talking about the processor, it is a 7nm chipset with two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. It features the Mali G57 MC2 GPU operating at a maximum frequency of 950 MHz. Samsung has paired the SoC with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, expandable by an additional 1TB via a microSD card.
The display has a V-shaped notch at the center, housing an 8-megapixel selfie camera. On the back, we have a triple camera setup consisting of a 64-megapixel f/1.8 primary shooter, a 5-megapixel f/2.2 ultrawide camera with a 115-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel f/2.4 depth sensor. The square-shaped camera housing also includes an LED flash.
The Galaxy Wide 5 is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that charges at up to 15W speeds over a USB Type-C port. Other notable specs and features include a side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 5, NFC, sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, and GPS. The phone expectedly runs Android 11 out of the box, with Samsung’s One UI 3.1 on top. The handset has a dimension of 76.4 X 167.2 X 9mm and weighs 203 grams.
Price and availability
The new Samsung Galaxy Wide 5 is now available to purchase in South Korea through SK Telecom’s website (via). The phone costs KRW 449,900 (approx. $386) upfront. However, eligible buyers can opt to spread the payment over up to 30 months. The handset is available in black, white, and blue color options.
As said earlier, the Galaxy Wide 5 could launch as the Galaxy F42 5G in markets outside South Korea. However, it’s unclear if and when the latter will arrive, or which country it will go on sale. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.
