Motorola is preparing to launch a new affordable Android tablet soon, called the Moto Tab 8. According to a 91Mobiles report, the Lenovo-owned company will introduce the device in India next month. There’s no word yet on its availability elsewhere.
Moto Tab 8: specifications
The upcoming Motorola Moto Tab 8 is reportedly a rebranded Lenovo Tab M8 FHD launched back in October 2019. The only notable difference between the two tablets will be in the software department. The former will run stock Android UI while the latter featured customizations from Lenovo.
Otherwise, it’s the same hardware, the report suggests. Meaning the Moto Tab 8 will feature an 8-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD resolution (1,200 x 1,920 pixels). The MediaTek Helio P22T chipset will power the tablet. It will get 4GB of RAM while storage choices will include 32GB and 64GB. The tablet will be available in both Wi-Fi-only and cellular (LTE) variants.
Interestingly, the Lenovo Tab M8 FHD comes with 64GB of storage if you buy the Wi-Fi-only model. For the LTE model, the storage capacity tops up at 32GB. We hope Motorola will offer some more choices in this regard. It should feature a microSD slot for expandable storage though.
The Moto Tab 8 will feature a 13-megapixel camera at the back and a 5-megapixel camera at the front. A 5,000mAh battery will supply power to it. The device should run Android 11 out of the box. Other notable features include a side-firing speaker tuned with Dolby Audio, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port.
Moto Tab 8: price and availability
The Moto Tab 8 will reportedly be first available for purchase in India during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale. The Indian e-commerce giant hasn’t yet confirmed the dates for its upcoming sale but it’ll likely run through in the first couple of weeks in October.
In terms of pricing, the Moto Tab 8 shouldn’t cost more than the Lenovo Tab M8 at launch. The latter is currently selling for ₹13,999 (approx. $190) on Flipkart. You can expect the new Motorola tablet to cost the same, if not lesser. It remains to be seen if the company will offer the device in multiple color options or we’re getting the same Platinum Grey color this time as well.
As said earlier, we don’t have any information regarding whether or not Motorola will bring its upcoming budget Android tablet to markets outside India. Keeps your hopes of it coming to the US low though. The Lenovo Tab M8 also didn’t arrive stateside.
