Samsung has started rolling out the October 2021 Android security patch to the Galaxy Z Fold 2. The 2020 Samsung foldable is currently receiving the new SMR (security maintenance release) in the company’s homeland South Korea. But, as always, you can expect the update to reach more markets pretty soon.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is picking up the latest security update across all major carrier variants in South Korea, including SK Telecom, KT Corporation, and LG U+. The new firmware version is F916NKSU1DUI4. Note that the build number may vary slightly in other regions.

As for new features and improvements, this update does seem to bring some goodies apart from the vulnerability fixes for this month. Unfortunately, we don’t have a changelog handy to confirm the contents. We will be able to tell for sure once the update arrives here in the US. If there’s anything notable, we will surely keep you updated.

We don’t yet have details about the contents of this month’s SMR either. Samsung will likely publish the updated security bulletin next week.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the latest Samsung smartphone to receive the October update

Today may be the first day of October but the Galaxy Z Fold 2 isn’t the first Samsung smartphone to receive this month’s security update. The Korean firm has made a habit of rolling out the new SMR to its devices even before the new month has started. It has done so without fail for the past several months. This month has been no different.

The October 2021 Android security patch first rolled out to the Galaxy S21 series earlier this week. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 foldables followed a couple of days later. As of yesterday, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series started picking up the new SMR as well. And today, we have the Galaxy Z Fold 2 joining the party.

Not all phones are receiving the latest security update throughout the world, or even in the same region. But the rollout will undoubtedly expand to more territories in the days to come unless Samsung discovers some major bug with the latest update. In that case, it might halt the rollout to fix the issue.

Nonetheless, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 should soon be picking up the October SMR globally. If you’re rocking this 2020 Galaxy foldable, you can expect to receive the OTA (over the air) update in the coming days. You can manually check for updates from your phone’s Settings app, under the Software update menu.
