Amazon has just announced that it is debuting its own Smart Thermostat, and it’ll cost just $59.99. But with rebates from your energy company, it could be as cheap as $10.
Amazon is announcing this smart thermostat as a way to eliminate another pain point that is keeping users from adding one to their home. And it’s also a way for Amazon to sell you more products, while hiding it behind an environmental push. You see your HVAC is what uses the most energy. Smart Thermostats can help use your HVAC left, by automatically adjusting your heat and/or AC during the day.
The Amazon Smart Thermostat is a no-frills thermostat
With its first Smart Thermostat, Amazon is not looking to make it flashy. It’s not throwing in a ton of features with this one, or even making it into an Echo. It’s a box that is white, and shows the temperature in white and that’s literally it. It’s designed to blend into the background of your home, and it appears to do that pretty well.
It does, of course, still work with Alexa. So you can use Alexa to control your thermostat from your smartphone, Echo or even your TV.
This is because Amazon wants this thermostat to be easy to install and easy to use. Amazon wants this to be a thermostat that your parents can install and use without needing to call your for tech support.
At $59, this smart thermostat is one of the cheapest models on the market. Since the majority of these actually start at over $100, including the latest Nest thermostat. Making this more affordable and likely a very popular thermostat.
There’s no word yet on when you can pre-order the Amazon Smart Thermostat, but it’ll likely be later today, with a ship date in either October or November.
