CD Projekt Red today announced that it’s planning to launch an updated patch of The Witcher 3 for the PS5 and the XBox Series X / S. The update, which the company has confirmed will be on the way, aims to enhance the game for current-gen consoles.
It’s an odd move. Considering the studio’s most recent game, Cyberpunk 2077, has yet to receive its own updates for the new PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Those are still coming of course, but not until late 2021. That is if things are still on schedule.
The new Witcher 3 patch isn’t just updating the graphics and enhancing the game to take advantage of the new console features. It also includes new content. According to CD Projekt Red, the accompanying DLC will be inspired by The Witcher Netflix show. It has yet to share any more elaborate details about what the content will include. But it does promise to share more in the future. Likely when it gets closer to the update’s release.
The Witcher 3 PS5 patch will launch this year
Fans of The Witcher 3 can look forward to playing this new content and enjoying the game in new ways with the enhanced graphics later this year.
CD Projekt Red doesn’t give an exact date though. What it does say is that it’ll be available later this year for both new consoles and PC. So PC players aren’t being left out.
To get players hyped up, there’s new cover art to accompany the patch of the game. You can see that in the image above. This update will be a free patch for all players who already own the game on their respective platforms. So you won’t have to buy it. Not even for the new DLC.
This announcement comes on the heels of WitcherCon, which was announced last month. WitcherCon started today, and had its first stream at 10AM. You can also catch another stream at 6PM.
