Riot has a big Summer event for League Of Legends and it’s going on right now. Called the Sentinels of Light, Riot says this is a multi-game event that will span across space and time. Ok, not really space and time but it is spanning across three of Riot’s mobile games.
Yes, this is a mobile-based event and will be taking place in League Of Legends: Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics. There are multiple layers to this event for the big Summer kickoff, but one of the more notable elements is the launch of a new champion. This is a big deal, for both players and Riot, as it’s the first time that a new champion is being released in more than one Riot game at the same time.
Typically, new champions are launched in the PC version of League of Legends first. Then they spider out from there. But this time around, things are happening in three games at once. Akshan should appear in the PC version of the game as well.
The League Of Legends Summer event includes a new champion
Everyone loves new champions, and there’s a new one being launched in League Of Legends: Wild Rift during the Sentinels of Light event. The event kicks off today in League Of Legends: Wild Rift, but the new champion, Akshan, won’t be in the game until a little later this month.
Officially he arrives on July 27. But he appears a bit earlier for the other two games. On July 14, Akshan joins the fray in Legends of Runeterra. And on July 21 he drops in on Teamfight Tactics.
If you haven’t heard of Akshan yet, check out his trailer above.
Get involved with the new in-game narrative
Riot loves to tell a good story within the League Of Legends universe. And it’s able to do such a good job due to the collection of rich lore that it has to pull from.
This event will add even more lore to the mix, with a narrative that Riot says players will be able to interact with. New pieces of the Sentinels of Light story will be released weekly, and players can read it within the Wild Rift app on there mobile devices. They can also read it at a special landing page.
There’s even a cool augmented reality experience that lets players explore the Sentinel Outpost. As for Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics, players will be treated to new champion skins, their own additional smaller events happening within the Sentinels of Light event, and more.
Sentinels of Light begins today, and will go until August 10.
