The Razer Barracuda X is Razer’s latest gaming headset, just announced today for the mobile gamer on the go. This isn’t just a gaming headset for mobile users however. It’s actually multi-platform. Potentially making it the perfect headset for mobile and Nintendo Switch users.
The Razer Barracuda X officially works with mobile, Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and PS5. That being said, for connection, it’s using a USB-C connector. So on the off chance that you’re mobile device doesn’t use USB-C, and it doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio port, then this headset won’t work. The good news is that most mobile devices have USB-C now. So compatibility shouldn’t be an issue for most consumers.
On top of it being multi-platform, the Barracuda X is priced competitively. Razer is only charging $99 USD. So that puts it squarely in competition with headsets like the Arctis 1 from SteelSeries. Which is also a sort of catch-all wireless gaming headset for multiple platforms.
The Razer Barracuda X works with consoles & PC, but mobile is where it will shine
Since you can use this with just about all major platforms these days, save for Xbox, the Barracuda X is likely to be a popular option for Razer. Mobile may be where this headset shines though.
Especially with the rise in cloud gaming from the likes of Stadia and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. And because there’s a detachable, Discord-certified mic included, the headset can go from mobile-ready solo gameplay to something multiplayer with voice chat.
The headset has memory foam earcups that should be pretty comfortable. Although they don’t come cooling-gel infused like some of Razer’s other headsets. All that really means though is that some users may experience slightly increased warmth. As the cooling gel helps to keep the temperature down when wearing the headset.
The Headset only comes in black. So if you want something a little more colorful, you might consider the Razer Opus X instead. Which is also wireless and also designed for gaming. It even has ANC and a low-latency gaming mode, and it costs the same amount as the Barracuda X. It does however give up the detachable boom mic. Either way, Razer has options for you.
The Razer Barracuda X is available from today, through retail partners like Amazon and through Razer’s online store, as well as at Razer’s physical store locations.
