With the Pixel 5a 5G expected to arrive next month, Google‘s two most recent phones, Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, have gone out of stock in most retail stores in the US. Spotted by 9to5Google, both phones are no longer listed on Google Fi. It’s not just an “out of stock” label on the product landing pages. The entire listings are gone, including descriptions and specifications.

The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have both been out of stock on Google Fi for most of this month, the publication reports. However, the recent delisting of the phones suggests the Google-owned MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) has started the preparations for the Pixel 5a 5G. The Pixel 4a is now the only Google phone available through it. The phone comes in a Just Black color variant and costs $349. Google Fi also sells phones from Samsung and Motorola.

It’s not just Google Fi where the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G are no longer available for purchase though. The US Google Store also has the Pixel 4a 5G out of stock. The unlocked and Verizon Pixel 5 models aren’t available either. The story is the same at Amazon and B&H Photo as well.

The Google Store often has Pixel phones listed as “out of stock” but new stocks arrive soon, though with delayed shipping many times. However, the most recent case is a bit different. The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 are sold out at pretty much every major retailer in the US. Google Fi has even gone an extra step and removed the entire listings for the two recent Pixel phones.

If you recall, we saw something similar happen with the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL last year just before the Pixel 4a arrived. The older phones were sold out and discontinued ahead of the new model’s debut. Judging by this and the recent developments, we might soon see the Pixel 5a 5G break cover.

Pixel 5a 5G will likely launch next month

There have been rumors that Google has canceled the Pixel 5a 5G but it exists. Perhaps it’s nearing its introduction, with rumors suggesting a launch as early as next month. We should get official confirmation soon.

There’s been no dearth of Pixel 5a 5G leaks as well. By the looks of it, the new Pixel will use the same Snapdragon 765 processor as the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. You can find more about it in our Pixel 5a 5G preview here.
