OnePlus is gearing up to launch the successor to its original Nord next week. Called OnePlus Nord 2, we’ve been hearing a lot about this phone recently. The latest is that the device will use the 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 sensor for its primary rear camera. If you’re don’t already know, that’s the same camera found on the back of the latest OnePlus flagships, i.e. the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The OPPO Find X3 Pro also uses this sensor.
This isn’t entirely a new piece of information though. There have been rumors of the OnePlus Nord 2 featuring this flagship-grade Sony camera. It’s more or less confirmed now, considering Ishan Agarwal, the source of this leak, has been mostly accurate with his claims in the past.
The latest leak also reiterates that the upcoming Nord will feature a triple camera setup on the back and that the primary camera will have OIS (optical image stabilization). It doesn’t shed light on the specifications of the other two sensors though. However, previous leaks have suggested that the OnePlus Nord 2 will sport an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Upfront, it will likely have a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
OnePlus has already confirmed that the Nord 2 will feature the same display as the original Nord. That means a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The device is also confirmed to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor. It will be the first OnePlus phone to use a MediaTek chip.
Other rumored specs and features include a 4,500mAh battery, up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and Android 11-based OxygenOS 11.3, which will be the first release based on the integrated OxygenOS-ColorOS codebase. Yes, following the merger with OPPO, OnePlus is also integrating its custom Android skin with that of the former. So you can expect phones from the two brands to share a lot of similarities in the future.
OnePlus Nord 2 will launch next week
The OnePlus Nord 2 will launch exactly a year after its predecessor. OnePlus announced the original Nord on July 21 last year. It arrived in the market two weeks later, on August 4. The company has now confirmed that its successor will break cover on July 22. So we can expect the new OnePlus mid-ranger to go on sale on August 5.
There’s no information available regarding the pricing of the OnePlus Nord 2 yet. But it’s not a very long wait now before things go official.
