Google's First Rollable Pixel Smartphone May Launch Next Year

Google Pixel 4a Review AM AH 3

It seems like Google may launch its first rollable smartphone next year. Now, this hasn’t been confirmed or anything, the company may postpone it to 2023. A well-known analyst, Ross Young, did share some info about it, though.

Google’s first rollable Pixel smartphone may actually launch next year

He tweeted out that the ‘Pixel Roll’ is coming, but that it’s not expected to launch in the next 12 months. So, we won’t be seeing it before August of 2022. That does not guarantee that it will arrive by the end of 2022, but it could happen. Google may push it back to 2023, though, of course.

Now, Mr. Young also confirmed, once again, that Google’s first foldable smartphone is coming this year. He did not say when exactly will the device launch, but we’ll see it by the end of 2021.

The Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are expected to launch in either September or October, and this foldable may launch alongside them. On the flip side, Google may host a separate event later in the year.

That device will include a UTG display

We don’t have much information about that device thus far. We do know that it will feature an ultra-thin display (UTG), and that it’s codenamed ‘passport’. That codename suggests a Galaxy Z Fold 2/3-like foldable is coming.

A rollable phone from Google may be of even more interest to some of you. OPPO is the only company that announced a rollable smartphone, but that is just a working concept phone, and is not available to purchase.

LG was expected to become the first company to introduce a rollable phone that will be available to the public, but that didn’t happen, as the company’s mobile department is a thing of the past now.

Samsung is tipped to be working on a rollable phone as well, while OPPO is surely getting another one ready, one that will actually be available. We’re sure that more OEMs are working on their rollable offerings as well. It will be interesting to see who will be first across the finish line, and start selling one of those.
