Samsung is going to host an event on June 22, and it seems that the company wants to talk about the future, including 5G and 6G. The event title is “Samsung Networks: Redefined,” and Korean company wants to announce its plans for “creating a more seamlessly connected society.”

The event starts at 10:00 EDT (16:00 CEST / 23:00 KST). Also, they have released a 15-second official teaser for it. According to the announcement note, Samsung wants to showcase its progress in developing the next generation of networks and wireless communication technologies. You can watch the event through Samsung’s YouTube channel.

Development of the 5G networks will definitely be one of the hottest topics at this event. Samsung is a leading company in developing 5G and adding it to its devices. Currently, even some of Samsung’s cheapest smartphones feature 5G connectivity. “Join us to discover how the company’s cutting-edge technologies will help unleash the full power of 5G,” company noted.

6G connectivity? Why not!

5G connectivity and the next generation of the network are the main topics for the event. Anyway, Samsung may go a step further and talk about 6G as well. 6G connectivity is not a new thing for Samsung, and the company has been researching and developing it for years.

Currently, Research Principal Engineer Choi Hyung-jin is responsible for leading the 6G department in the Company. Dates back to 2019, Samsung has created a dedicated team to research 6G. “The current team on telecommunications technology standards has been expanded to start leading research on the 6G network,” A Samsung official said in 2019.

Samsung’s efforts to develop 6G come at a time when 5G has still a long way to go. However, it shows that the Korean company is well prepared for the future and intends to maintain its lead.

6G may arrive in 2028

In 2020, Samsung again mentioned its efforts in developing 6G connectivity in a white paper. According to Samsung’s white paper, 6G can reach up to 1,000 Gbps data rate, and its latency is as low as 100 microseconds.

The document said that 6G could start its initial launch stages in 2028 and expand worldwide in 2030. So, we should not wait for 6G any time soon, and it is better to enjoy 5G.

Anyway, we are all waiting for the Samsung event on June 22 to see what the company’s plans are for the future. Stay tuned.
