Xiaomi will announce MIUI 13 in August, it seems. MIUI 13 will become a brand new version of the company’s take on Android, following MIUI 12 which has been around since last year.
This information comes from a Xiaomi executive. He mentioned that MIUI 13 is now in testing, without flat-out saying ‘MIUI 13’. He did hint that a “new major version of MIUI” is coming, while he did mention August in that context.
MIUI 13 is said to arrive in August, alongside the Mi MIX 4
This timeline kind of fits, as the Mi MIX 4 is expected to arrive in August as well. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 will become the company’s brand new flagship, and it may launch with MIUI 13 pre-installed.
Now, some of you may wonder how will Xiaomi deliver MIUI 13 in August when Android 12 is expected to drop in August. Well, new versions of MIUI are not necessarily tied to new versions of Android. MIUI 13 will likely be based on Android 11 at first, and then move up a notch.
MIUI 13 will arrive to China first, of course. It will start landing in smartphones in Xiaomi’s home country before it makes it to global models. That has been the usual practice with updates, when it comes to Xiaomi.
MIUI 13 is a mystery at this point
In regards to what MIUI 13 will bring, well, we don’t know, to be quite honest. Next to nothing surfaced regarding MIUI 13 up to this point. Details regarding Xiaomi’s upcoming MIUI versions rarely surface before launch.
You can expect a ton of improvements under the hood, while Xiaomi will likely change up some UI elements as well. We’re not sure how much will change, though, as MIUI is considerably different than stock Android.
Xiaomi is also expected to announce the Mi MIX 4 flagship in August. That device is said to include a flagship SoC from Qualcomm, either the Snapdragon 888 or 888 Plus. In addition to that, it will include an under-display camera, if rumors are to be believed.
