Huawei Offers First Look At P50 Flagship & Its Huge Cameras

Huawei P50 first look

Huawei hosted an event yesterday, during which it announced quite a few products. One product that didn’t get announced is the company’s Huawei P50 flagship, but we did get a first look at the device.

Huawei shared an image of the P50 (Pro), giving us a first look at its upcoming flagship

The company shared an image of the phone during the event, while a teaser video got shared in China. If you take a look at the image below, you’ll see what we’re talking about.

Huawei P50 first look

This image does go hand-in-hand with the leaks, pretty much. The Huawei P50 will feature huge cameras on the back, well, a huge camera island, that is. You’ll notice two circles on the back, and those two host four cameras in total.

The top circle has three camera sensors inside, while the bottom one includes one, and what seems to be an LED flash. A secondary LED flash seems to be located on the outside. Do note that it’s possible the sensor inside the bottom circle is not an LED flash, though, even though it looks like it. We’ll have to wait and see.

This image also reveals that the phone’s cameras will protrude on the back, quite a bit. The back side of the phone will be mostly flat, though it will curve towards the sides.

The device combines metal with glass, it seems

Speaking of the back side, that seems to be glass applied on the back. The phone’s frame will be made out of metal, as expected. You can see the phone’s buttons here as well, as the volume up and down buttons will sit above the power / lock key on the right.

This particular phone also seems to have a curved display. We’re not sure if this is the regular Huawei P50, the P50 Pro, or the P50 Pro+. Huawei is expected to announce two or three models, so we’ll see. At the moment, the Huawei P50 and P50 Pro are expected, and this is likely the ‘Pro’ variant. The regular model will probably include a flat display.

Huawei is rumored to use a 1-inch camera sensor

The Huawei P50 series is expected to debut a 1-inch camera sensor on the back. Sony’s IMX800 sensor has been rumored, though that sensor hasn’t been announced just yet.

The Huawei P50 series was supposed to launch already. The Huawei P40 got announced back in March last year, and there’s still no word when the P50 series may arrive. We’re already in June, so… Huawei is either a bit late, or it purposely changed its release cycle. Considering all the issues due to the US ban, that’s not surprising. The company probably needed more time to organize things, and to implement HarmonyOS inside its devices.
