There has been some chatter about foldable devices from HONOR for quite some time now. Well, HONOR has just confirmed all that chatter, as it trademarked some device names that suggest foldable devices, the Magic Flip, Fold, and Flex.
A well-known display analyst said, several times, that HONOR is planning to release its first foldable soon. The company will likely announce it by the end of this year, as soon as August, if a recent report is to be believed.
HONOR trademarked some names that suggest foldable devices are coming
Based on these name trademarks, HONOR may be planning to release more than one foldable in the near future. HONOR may want to release competitors for both the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series of devices.
In other words, the company may announce a foldable tablet, and a foldable smartphone. The ‘Flex’ name may even suggest that a rollable phone is in HONOR’s plans, we’ll see.
Now, HONOR did sign a deal with Visionox at the end of last year, as the company will be provided with flexible displays from Visionox. Some insiders also talked about HONOR foldables, so they’re surely coming.
HONOR is no longer Huawei’s company
HONOR, as most of you know by now, was Huawei’s company. That’s not longer the case, though, as it was sold by Huawei. This benefits HONOR when it comes to Google services, though. HONOR is free to pre-installed Google services, and is not a part of the US ban at this point.
The company announced some interesting smartphones quite recently, its HONOR 50 series, but the Magic-branded phone(s) are expected to be even more premium.
We don’t have any specific details regarding HONOR’s first foldable smartphone. We can only guess it will be a foldable tablet similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but it remains to be seen. HONOR’s foldables are also expected to be more affordable than most of the competition, so it will be interesting to see those price tags.
