Google has taken the wraps off of its newest member for the Pixel Buds family – the Pixel Buds A-series. This is basically the Pixel 4a of the Pixel Buds. So they are much cheaper, coming in at $99 versus the $179 price tag on the regular Pixel Buds. These also shave off some features that the regular Buds have.

Surprisingly, even though these are about half the price, Google didn’t do a lot of skimping here. They have the same quality as the 2020 Pixel Buds. And also still offer the hands-free “Hey Google” voice commands. The Pixel Buds A-Series also offer IPX4 for water and sweat resistance.

Where Google did skimp was with the charging case. It’s not a wireless charging case, so you’ll need to plug in the USB-C cable for that. And the swiping controls for volume are gone. Otherwise, these are mostly the same as the 2020 Pixel Buds. Besides the colors that they are available in.

Battery life is still pretty decent. It’s rated at five hours on a charge, and up to 24 hours with the case. There is also fast-charging available here, where you can charge for 15 minutes and get about three hours of playback. A great way to top off before you get to the gym.

Google has softened the ear hooks on the Pixel Buds A-Series, though they are still not removable. They are also smaller this time around. The Pixel Buds A-Series can also hit higher volumes without distortion.

Pricing & Availability

The Pixel Buds A-Series are available for pre-order today for $99. And they will start shipping in about two weeks, on June 17.

Google is selling the Pixel Buds A-Series in two colors. Clearly White and Dark Olive. Fewer colors than the 2020 Pixel Buds, and they are not two-toned either. It’s important to note that the Dark Olive color has a white case, though the inside of the case matches the dark olive buds.
