OnePlus is pushing new updates to the OnePlus 7 and 7T phones. The latest update brings a bunch of bug fixes and improvements and also introduces the May 2021 Android security patch. All four models – OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro – are receiving the new update. The new firmware is based on OxygenOS 188.8.131.52.
According to the official changelog, the latest update for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series fixes an issue where the Google Fi SIM card was not accepting incoming calls. It also fixes the occasional abnormal display issue when making a call as well as another occasional issue where the incoming call interface delays display. OnePlus is also promising an improved swiping experience of Shelf, faster loading speeds of picture previews in the Gallery, improved 4G connectivity, and improved Wi-Fi stability.
The Camera app is also getting a handful of bug fixes. The new update fixes an issue where the mirror effect fails to work. Another issue where the Camera behaved abnormally when zooming in macro mode has also been fixed. Last but not least, this update also fixes an issue with some buttons not working properly when taking pictures continuously in Nightscape mode.
Unfortunately, always-on-display (AOD) is still missing from the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. OnePlus introduced this feature to its phones with OxygenOS 11 on the OnePlus 8 series. However, it’s yet to make it into the older models, much to the growing frustration of users.
The company did add AOD to the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro with OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 2 earlier in February, but the feature was left out of the stable build. It is reportedly still in testing, with OnePlus planning to push it in subsequent updates. Hopefully, it will not be a too long delay now.
OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T, and 7T Pro get May update with a bunch of bug fixes
OnePlus, which was once known for fast software updates, is losing that reputation rapidly. We are into the last week of May and the company is only just starting to release this month’s security update to its 2019 flagships. Nonetheless, if you own any of these phones, be on the lookout for a new update in the coming days.
The latest update for the OnePlus 7 and 7T series started rolling out over the weekend. It is an incremental update over the air (OTA) and should reach all eligible units over the next couple of weeks. You should get a notification to download the update once it becomes available for your phone. You can also manually check for updates from your phone’s Settings app.
