DELL today has announced a new range of gaming laptops, including the new Alienware X Series which the company says is “it’s thinnest gaming laptop ever.” When it comes to the external design, the Alienware X Series isn’t any different from the brand’s other current laptop range.
It has the same aesthetic as the m15 and m17 laptops, but it’s been cut down on weight and thickness to make the laptop more portable. Yet without letting go of any of the performance power that Alienware laptops are known for.
In addition to the Alienware X Series, its thinnest gaming laptop design ever and officially known as the Alienware x17, there’s a refresh of the m15 R6. As well as DELL’s new G15 TGL, and its latest XPS laptop which isn’t specifically for gaming but it does work well as a gaming laptop thanks to the specs.
The Alienware X Series gaming laptop uses new proprietary thermal technologies
For the time being Alienware is keeping the x17 mostly under wraps. But it is sharing a few small pieces of information about it today. For starters, it uses new proprietary thermal technologies that Alienware cooked up.
This is what helps keep the laptop so thin. Alienware says it helped balance the power and style of the laptop. Beyond that, Alienware isn’t sharing many other details. The company is keeping a lid on all the specs and features, because the laptop is “so full of patent-pending technology, it needs a separate announcement.”
To that end, DELL will be holding another announcement on June 1. This time via a livestream on Alienware’s official Twitch channel.
The m15 R6 refresh & G15 come equipped with NVIDIA’s RTX 30 Series GPUs
While you can bet the new x17 is coming with NVIDIA’s new 30 series GPUs, so are DELL’s other gaming laptops. Both the Alienware m15 R6 refresh and the new G15 gaming laptop come powered by the RTX 30 series.
DELL doesn’t give specifics on the G15, but you’re likely looking at the RTX 3050 Ti or the RTX 3060 for the base model. For the m15 R6, you have multiple configuration options. The base model will come with an NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti, but you can also get it with an RTX 3060, 3070, or 3080. There’s also varying RAM and storage options with as much as 32GB of RAM and up to 4TB of internal drive space. You’ll never want for RAM or storage again.
Both the G15 and the m15 R6 refresh come with 15-inch displays starting at Full HD resolution, and they’re both powered by Intel’s latest 11th Gen Core H-Series mobile CPUs. Prices for the m15 R6 will start at $1,299, while the much more affordable G15 will start at $799.
Look to the new XPS for something less conspicuous
More and more these days you might want something that is functionally capable of delivering when it comes to gaming performance. But also not look like a gaming laptop. If you fit into that category the new XPS might be what you’re searching for.
Prices will start at $1,249 for the new XPS 15, and $1,449 for the new XPS 17. Both also come with 30 Series GPUs (the RTX 3050 Ti for the XPS 15, and the RTX 3060 for the XPS 17). They also carry color accurate display with some of the slimmest bezels out there. DELL is positioning these as excellent laptop options for creators, but they will still work well for gaming.
Of course they won’t perform as well as the new Alienware laptops. But you likely already knew that.
