The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition smartphone has been announced. Needless to say, this is a gaming smartphone, as its name says. The thing is, it’s more affordable than its competition, at least from the vast majority of its competition.
This smartphone does deliver a recognizably different design than its siblings, just so it differentiates itself. The phone does come with a really nice spec sheet, and some gaming-focused features as well.
The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition handset is optimized for gaming and gamers
The phone is fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, which is a 6nm processor. It comes with multi-stacked graphite layers combined with super-large vapor chambers, and new aerospace-grade heat dissipation material. That material has a built-in “white graphene” layer that covers 11540mm².
In other words, it should not only efficiently dissipate heat for the charging chip, but also offer great insulation to reduce the impact on nearby antennas.
On top of that, Redmi implemented a magnetic dual-trigger design here, which allows you to use four fingers to play games, not two. Redmi says that they offer “realistic pressing feedback”, mainly thanks to its mechanical structure.
The company mentioned that these triggers offer a lifespan of up to 1.5 million taps. The phone is also equipped with Dolby Atmos and stereo speakers, and is approved by the JBL synthesis certification system.
It comes with a 120Hz AMOLED display, up to 12GB of RAM & 66W fast charging
That being said, let’s talk a bit about specs, shall we. The phone features a 6.67-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) AMOLED display with HDR10+ support. It is a 120Hz panel, protected by the Gorilla Glass 5.
The device is equipped with 6GB / 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. A 12GB RAM variant is also available, and it comes with 256GB of internal storage.
There are two SIM card slots inside this phone (2x nano SIM), while Android 11 comes pre-installed. On top of Google’s OS you’ll find MIUI 12.5 skin.
A 5,065mAh battery is included in the package, and it supports 66W fast wired charging. The device is also equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 or 5.2, depending on the version. If you get the 12GB RAM variant you’ll get Bluetooth 5.2.
A 64-megapixel main camera (f/1.65 aperture) is backed by an 8-megapixel wide-angle unit (119-degree FoV, f/2.2 aperture). A 2-megapixel telemacro camera (f/2.4 aperture) also sits at the back.
A 16-megapixel front-facing camera is included, as is a side-facing fingerprint scanner. The company even included an IR blaster on the device, while a Type-C USB port sits at the bottom.
Even a special edition “Bruce Lee” variant has been announced
The phone measures 161.94 x 76.93 x 8.3mm, while it weighs 205 grams. It comes in Black, Silver, and White color variants, while the Bruce Lee Special Edition variant comes in a 12GB RAM variant only.
The pricing for the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition starts at CNY1,999 ($308), and it goes all the way up to CNY2,699 ($416). The Bruce Lee Special Edition model is priced at CNY2,799 ($431). Do note that Redmi did not say anything about international availability just yet.
