Social media influencer & tech genius – these are just a few terms to describe Rishabh Shanbhag, the tech influencer that has taken the world by storm. We are incredibly fortunate that he made time to talk to us today.

Q: Mr. Shanbhag, thank you for joining us here today. Can you tell us a few of your childhood memories that stand out to you?

A: Thank you for calling me. When I was in school, I was fascinated by the iPod Touch – a handheld device which allowed the user to make use of a plethora of applications and games through the touch of their fingers. I was fortunate to have received it as a gift from my parents on my 13th birthday. I think that was the turning point in my life. I fell in love with the technology that the device offered. My curiosity grew and I soon started tinkering with the device, which led me to customizing and jailbreaking it. There was a curiosity as to how the OS and some of its features worked, and what could be done to make it better – I believe this was what eventually got me hooked onto software development.

Q: How did you learn computer programming? Did you get any formal education when you were young?

A: No – At that time, I had to tackle school and my hobby simultaneously. I pretty much researched the programming languages and the syntax associated with it through the Internet during my free time. Initially, I bootstrapped a couple simple web-app prototypes by researching how to and eventually made progress from there on. I enjoyed what I did and I think that’s the essential part of learning. You must enjoy what you are doing. Otherwise, it becomes a half-hearted effort.

I have acquired a formal education in Information Sciences and Technology recently though. However, prior to that, most of my knowledge in programming languages was through the Internet – there are several great sources on the web providing free content as well.

Q: What are you passionate about now? What drives you?

A: Well, good question. I think one’s passion changes as they age. When I was in my teens, my interest mainly revolved around gaining knowledge of various programming languages and technologies. As I grew up, I realized I would like to help make an impact on the lives of the others – technology, just being one medium to do so, through which creative solutions can be built to aid and improve an end-user’s day-to-day experience.

Well, thank you so much, Mr. Shanbhag, for talking to us today. We hope your success keeps reaching new heights.
