HMD Global has now officially launched no fewer than six new smartphones under the Nokia branding, with the ‘X’, ‘G’, and ‘C’ series.

Notably, each of these handsets is entirely separate from previous entries from the company and the brand. Traditionally, Nokia smartphones have featured a designation and a model version. For example, the Nokia 5.4 is a mid-range phone and fourth-generation device and one of the best budget handsets around. Now, the company is branching in a new direction with the Nokia X, G, and C series. Specifically, the Nokia X10, X20, G10, G20, C10, and C20.

Each of the new gadgets in the Nokia X, G, and C series is similar in terms of design and features. For example, each packs a 3.5mm audio jack and a round camera housing at the back. And each utilizes a notch or punch-hole design for the forward-facing selfie snapper, with razer-thin bezels — relatively speaking.

The differentiation between the Nokia X, G, and C series smartphones largely centers around chipset, internal specs, cameras, and intended price bracket. And each is launching globally within the next several months.

Looking past the Nokia G and C series, the more intriguing of the new handsets is arguably the mid-range X series. Priced at the top of the range, compared to the other new gadgets announced today, the Nokia X10 and Nokia X20 are incredibly similar. Both feature a 6.67-inch 20:9 FHD+ display at 1080 x 2400 pixels. Both also pack a 5G-ready, Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor with up to 128GB storage.

Similarly, each is driven by a claimed 2-day battery at 4470mAh with 18W charging. And both will get 3 years of both security and firmware updates.

Where these two handsets differ, primarily, is in memory configurations, cameras, and color. For starters, the Nokia X10 comes in a deep green “Forest” color and a pure white “Snow” configuration. The Nokia X20 comes in an orange-tinted Midnight Sun or deep Nordic Blue hue. Each phone supports up to 512GB expansion to included storage via a microSD card. But the Nokia X10 starts at 4GB RAM and only goes up to 6GB, compared to the Nokia X20’s 6GB or 8GB. Storage is at 64GB or 128GB for the former and only at 128GB for the latter.

On the camera front, the pricier Nokia X20 features a quad-snapper led by a 64-megapixel lens. The Nokia X10 is led by a 48-megapixel snapper. In either case, those are backed by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

The new Nokia G series, conversely, doesn’t move the needle much from the X or C series. At least not on screen size. Both the Nokia G10 and G20 are 6.517-inch handsets both with an HD+ resolution and a v-style notch in the top of the screen. Each is powered by a Mediatek chipset too, dropping the price significantly compared to the Nokia X10 or X20. But both are also much more different from one another than those handsets too.

The Nokia G10, for instance, is power by a MediaTek G25. That’s eight A53 cores at 2.0GHz compared to the eight A53 cores at 2.3GHz found in the Nokia G20. And that’s because the MediaTek G35 powers the latter handset. Nokia G10 also comes with either 32GB or 64GB expandable storage with 3GB or 4GB RAM. But the Nokia G20 only ships with a 4GB RAM option. And 64GB or 128GB expandable storage is available.

Now, the same battery life promise — up to 3 days –, update promises — two years for Android OS and three for security –, and basic feature set is available on both G series Nokia handsets. Only the Nokia G20 ships with NFC support, for instance. But they differ even more when it comes to cameras. The Nokia G20 packs a 4-camera array led by a 48-megapixel snapper. That’s as compared to the three-camera setup on the Nokia G10, led by a 13-megapixel snapper.

The final devices launched by HMD Global today, alongside the G and X series, are the Nokia C series entries. Specifically, the Nokia C10 and C20.

Both handsets, like those in the previous entries, are 6.517-inch smartphones just as with the G series. Each also features a uniquely Nokia design, with curves and camera housing similar to other devices launched today. But these are budget-first, sub-$100 handsets, intended to offer the best Android experience possible for new and younger users.

To that end, HMD Global is launching the Nokia C10 and C20 with a quad- and octa-core chipset, respectively. And that’s backed by either 1GB or 2GB RAM, and 16GB or 32GB storage configurations too. Both with MicroSD Card support for up to 256GB.

The circular camera housing on either handset, conversely, houses just a single camera — at 5-megapixels — at the same resolution as the V-notch-embedded selfie snapper. And a 3,000mAh battery powers all of that, which the company says will last up to a full day.

But the biggest differentiator between these handsets and those listed above isn’t in the specs. It’s Android 11 Go Edition with two years of updates and 2-years of quarterly security updates. That means that these two phones will offer a great experience, despite using decidedly budget-friendly hardware. And either should keep going strong for longer than the average sub-$100 phone too.

For instance, the Nokia X20 and Nokia X10 will be available starting in May and June, respectively. The former will start at a global average cost of €349 and be available in both Midnight Sun and Nordic Blue, with 6GB and 8GB RAM options available. Also available in June is the Nokia C10, in Light Purple or Grey with 1GB and 2GB RAM options. Storage for that will be between 16GB and 32GB. With the price set at a €75 global average, compared to the Nokia C20. The latter starts at €89 and is available in Sand or Dark Blue. The Nokia C20 will also be available earlier, starting in April alongside the Nokia G10.

The Nokia G10 will start at €139 in Night and Dusk color options, with either 3GB RAM and 32GB storage or 4GB RAM and 64GB storage options available. Finally, the Nokia G20 will start out at €159 on average, in May, in Night and Glacier colors. And that will ship with 4GB RAM regardless of whether the 64GB or 128GB storage option is selected.
