The OnePlus Nord 2 will become official in Q2 2021, and it will be fueled by MediaTek’s most powerful processor, the Dimensity 1200. This information comes from Android Central, as the company managed to get ahold of some information.
The OnePlus Nord has been quite a success for OnePlus, especially in some markets. That device is fueled by the Snapdragon 765G, a respected mid-range processor. Well, it looks like its successor will switch from Qualcomm to MediaTek, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
The OnePlus Nord 2 coming with MediaTek’s most powerful SoC, the Dimensity 1200
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is the company’s most powerful processor to date, and it’s quite capable. If this information ends up being true, the OnePlus Nord 2 will become the company’s first phone to ship with MediaTek’s chip. OnePlus only used Qualcomm chips thus far.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 was announced last year, and it is a 6nm processor. It comes with the Mali G77 GPU, which has nine cores, and the chip enables global 5G connectivity. 5G dual SIM dual standby is also enabled by that chip.
Now, other than the release timeframe, and the SoC that will be used, Android Central did not reveal any additional information about the device. Chances are we’ll start seeing some information once the OnePlus 9 series gets announced.
Before the Nord 2’s arrival, OnePlus will announce its OnePlus 9 flagships
The OnePlus 9 series is expected to arrive on March 23, though the exact date hasn’t been confirmed yet. OnePlus will likely confirm it on March 8, as the company teased some sort of an announcement for that date.
The OnePlus Nord 2 will aim for completely different types of consumers than the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, though. The OnePlus 9E / 9R may be closer to the Nord 2, though, in terms of pricing and everything else.
The Nord 2 is expected to be quite affordable, just like its predecessor. Its price tag needs to be right, as that’s one of its main selling points. The original Nord offers a lot for the price, and its successor is expected to be quite similar in that regard.
