The Google Pixel 5a just made one step closer to its launch. The device seemingly got certified. This certification occurred in India, as the phone surfaced on India’s BIS certification bureau.

The Google Pixel 5a is now closer to its launch, as it has been certified

A Google smartphone with the model number “GR0M2” got certified. There is currently no indication this is the Google Pixel 5a, but it almost certainly is. We do know it’s a Google smartphone, and the Pixel 5a is next in line.

Another detail that points to the Pixel 5a is Google’s recent statement. Google underestimated demand for the Pixel 4a in India, and is aiming to rectify that mistake with the upcoming Pixel 5a smartphone.

The Google Pixel 5a will be a budget phone, just like its predecessor. India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world, and its consumers love affordable devices. Therefore, the Pixel 5a sounds like a great fit.

The Google Pixel 4a managed to become one of the best budget smartphones around, and its price tag is only a positive. The Google Pixel 5a won’t change much in that regard, it seems.

The phone already appeared in CAD-based renders

Google’s upcoming smartphone did surface a while back, showing off its design. A well-known tipster shared the phone’s CAD-based renders, and it seems like the device will look almost identical to the Pixel 4a 5G.

The phone will be made out of polycarbonate, and offer that minimalistic design that Pixel smartphone buyers love. It will include a display camera hole, flat display, and rather thin bezels as well. Three cameras overall will also be included.

Chances are that Google will stick with the same 12.2-megapixel main camera sensor it used on every Pixel smartphone since the Pixel 2. The second camera on the back will likely be an ultra-wide one.

The Google Pixel 5a is expected to launch in June. If you’d like to know more about the device, check out our preview.
