Earlier today, Xiaomi teased its upcoming smartphone with a quad-curved display. Well, that smartphone is now official, and it comes with the so-called ‘Waterfall’ display. This phone is different from other ‘Waterfall’ display smartphones we’ve seen, though.
New Xiaomi smartphone features a quad-curved display, and more
This concept smartphone has considerable curves on all four sides. That makes it look both interesting and unique at the same time. That display is curved at 88 degrees on all sides, by the way.
Almost the entire frame of the device is covered by the display, as you can see. That’s not the only odd thing about this phone. The device also has no buttons and no ports! That makes it quite futuristic as well.
Xiaomi says that manufacturing this smartphone was not an easy task, mainly because of that display, and fitting it into the phone.
Xiaomi took advantage of 46 self-developed patents to make this phone a reality
The company says that it had to utilize 46 self-developed patents in order to make sure that physical ports and buttons are replaced by “more elegant alternatives”. The company used ultra-thin piezoelectric ceramics, for example, an industry-first flexible film display acoustic technology.
On top of that, the company also utilized third-generation under-display cameras, wireless charging, eSIM chips, pressure-sensitive touch sensors, and more.
The phone itself is made out of metal and glass, and you can check it out in the provided video below. That is Xiaomi’s official introduction video of this smartphone, by the way. As far as specs are concerned, well, we don’t have any information just yet.
We’re still not sure if it will be available to purchase
For those of you who are interested in buying it, well, we’re not sure if you’ll be able to. Xiaomi did not release any information on this phone’s pricing or availability. Some of its concept devices do end up being available, but we’re not sure about this one.
Xiaomi’s CEO did ask people if they’d be interested in buying a $1,500 smartphone recently, so maybe this phone is what he had in mind. It seems like Xiaomi is still trying to decide whether to sell it or not. We’re waiting for more information.
