Ring has finally announced a follow-up to its “Pro” video doorbell, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. It is available today for pre-order at $249.99. That’s the same price the original Ring Video Doorbell Pro was at launch (it’s now $169). It’ll start shipping on March 31, 2021.
With Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, you’re getting a new square video capture. Which is a feature that the Nest Hello video doorbell has had for a few years, among other competitors. This has become popular, because it allows you to see who is at the door, from head to toe. This also allows you to see packages at your doorstep.
It captures a resolution of 1536×1536 image, and surprisingly the first Ring doorbell to not use a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Ring brings 3D Motion Detection to the Doorbell Pro 2
Ring is enabling 3D Motion Detection on this new video doorbell. Which allows you to “pin point the location and time a motion event begins”. There’s also a bird’s eye view that shows you a top-down image of the motion detected.
The Doorbell Pro 2 also allows you to customize other motion and privacy zones, which is the same as you can do as with other Ring cameras.
The audio has also been improved, as it now has an array microphone. Additionally, you can use preset replies when you’re not home. If you subscribe to the Ring Protect Plan, you can use Alexa Greetings, that will give you even more advanced answers to use.
Overall, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is a pretty minor upgrade from the original Pro model. Adding some upgrades in a few different areas, which might not make it a big upgrade to those that have the original Pro model. But those looking to get a “Pro” Ring doorbell, you will definitely love this one.
You can pre-order the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 today, and it’ll ship at the end of next month.Pre-order Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
