At CES 2021, TCL has announced that it is also jumping on the Google TV bandwagon. This comes after Sony's announcement last week, about bringing Google TV to all of its 2021 TVs.

TCL didn't provide a lot of info about Google TV, but it sounds like all of its lines of Android TVs will be getting Google TV in 2021. According to its press release, "TCL Google TVs will combine TCL's industry-leading display technologies, such as Mini-LED, 8K and QLED, with Google's new entertainment experience, to help users discover and access the content they love in stunning definition on the latest TCL screens more easily than ever before."

So it sounds like we'll be getting more than just mid-range TVs on Google TV – whereas Android TV was mostly only on mid-range TVs from TCL.

"We are excited to partner with TCL to bring Google TV to customers around the world. Google TV is a more helpful and delightful TV experience that helps users find the content they love," said Shobana Radhakrishnan, Senior Engineering Director, Google TV.

When can I get a TCL Google TV?

As mentioned, TCL nor Google said much about availability or pricing for the TCL Google TV sets. But expect them to be available in the coming months. With prices similar to their Roku counterparts.

These TVs still run Android TV. The new thing here is Google TV, which is actually just a "skin" over top of Android TV, essentially. Google TV offers a much more intuitive home screen. And it gives you an easier way to find something to watch, without opening different apps to see what's available.

Google TV also integrates with YouTube TV, so you can see the live TV Guide on your home screen, as well as what's in your DVR. Making it really impressive and useful for YouTube TV subscribers.

TCL 6-Series Going 8K

TCL also announced that the 6-Series will be going 8K in 2021. Which will also be MiniLED. That's not new for the 6-Series, as both it and the 8-Series are already using MiniLED. But it will be upgraded to 8K.

TCL is looking to bring its aggressive pricing strategy to 8K TVs next. While TCL has not yet announced many details about the 6-Series 8K TVs, don't expect them to be super cheap. We should learn more about it in the coming months though.
