OnePlus is rolling out a new update to the Nord N10 5G. The newest build of OxygenOS for the affordable OnePlus smartphone brings the January 2021 Android security patch to the handset. It is the first OnePlus smartphone to receive the latest Android security update.
The official changelog also mentions network stability improvements and optimizations to the device’s power consumption. The update also reportedly introduces a quick setting switch to adjust sounds and vibration. There’s no mention of this addition in the official announcement or the changelog though.
The latest update for the OnePlus Nord N10 5G comes with OxygenOS version 10.5.9 with build numbers 10.5.9.BE89BA in Europe and 10.5.9.BE86AA in North America. The over the air (OTA) download size weighs around 108MB.
OnePlus Nord N10 5G gets the latest security update
OnePlus announced the Nord N10 5G alongside the Nord N100 in October last year. The former is slightly better specced between the two and is one of the best smartphones you can buy under $300, considering there aren’t many 5G-capable devices in this price range. It went on sale in the US last week for $299 via T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and unlocked as well.
At this price, you get a Snapdragon 690 SoC with 5G connectivity, a 6.49-inch FHD+ IPS LCD punch-hole display with 90Hz refresh rate, 6GB RAM paired with 128GB of expandable storage, a 64-megapixel quad rear-camera setup, a 16-megapixel front-facing camera, a 4300mAh battery with 30W fast wired charging, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC support, and much more.
However, the device comes with a major intentional flaw that could be a deal-breaker for many. OnePlus has committed to offering only one major Android OS update to this phone. The device runs Android 10 out of the box, so Android 11, which should arrive in the next couple of months, would be the last Android OS update for it.
That’s disappointing from OnePlus, to say the least. The company, which is known for offering arguably the best software support among non-Google Android OEMs, is losing that reputation lately. We are in the latter half of January and not one OnePlus flagship has received this month’s Android security update yet. OnePlus is lagging behind in terms of Android 11 rollout as well.
Nonetheless, the OnePlus Nord N10 5G is now receiving the January 2021 Android security patch with the latest update. The update is rolling out in an incremental fashion and may take a few days before it reaches every eligible unit. You can manually check for updates through the phone’s Settings app.
