Google has worked aggressively towards most of its apps to revamp them with some new features in the recent past. Now, the latest report by XDA hints that Google Phone automatic call recording for unknown numbers functionality is under work.
Notably, this piece of information comes via an APK teardown by folks at XDA. If you are not aware, Google started working on adding call record support on its Google Phone app almost a year ago.
Soon, the company started rolling out this new feature to its Pixel smartphone lineup. Later on, several Nokia devices started picking up this new call recording feature for the Google Phone app.
Thereafter, a couple of Xiaomi phones also picked up this new feature. However, now, Google seems to be working on expanding the feature of this call recording feature.
Basically, the APK teardown of the latest version of the Google Phone app reveals new strings of codes. These codes hint towards the upcoming functionality.
Note that APK teardown, although highlights some new features the developers are working on. But there is no 100% possibility that the new feature will make its way to the stable app.
Google Phone automatic call recording will have two options, "Always record" & "Cancel"
Multiple strings of codes suggest that the company is working towards adding Google Phone automatic call recording feature. It will let users record calls from unknown numbers.
Here are the strings that XDA spotted this new feature on:
<string name="non_contact_always_record_dialog_message">"You or the other person in your call might be somewhere that requires everyone to consent to being recorded. Everyone will be notified ahead of time that the call is being recorded. It's up to you to follow laws about recording conversations. Recordings are stored only on your phone."</string>
<string name="non_contact_always_record_dialog_title">Always record calls with numbers not in your contacts?</string>
<string name="non_contact_always_record_positive_button_label">Always record</string>
<string name="non_contact_toggle_label">Numbers not in your contacts</string>
If you take a look at the first string (mentioned above) it mentions a disclaimer. It states, "You or the other person in your call might be somewhere that requires everyone to consent to being recorded. Everyone will be notified ahead of time that the call is being recorded. It’s up to you to follow laws about recording conversations. Recordings are stored only on your phone."
Taking a hint from the above disclaimer, users will see a confirmation. This confirmation will ask users if they wish to turn on automatic call recording for unknown numbers.
Moreover, it will include two options, "Always Record" and "Cancel." Choosing any one of the options will either enable or disable the feature.
The disclaimer also mentions a toggle that will show up within the app once Google Phone automatic call recording feature rolls out for users.
