After being delayed due to the pandemic, and then launching on Disney+ Premier Access over the summer, Mulan is finally available to watch for Disney+ subscribers.
Mulan was supposed to have a huge debut in the box office this year. Disney was expecting it to be one of the biggest hits of the year for the company. But COVID-19 decided that wasn’t going to happen. So Disney decided to release it on Disney+ over the summer, on its new “Premier Access” tier. Which basically meant, you needed to pay $20 to watch Mulan on Disney+ Premier Access. Or you could wait for it to launch on Disney+ properly on December 4. And that just so happens to be today.
So if you subscribe to Disney+ for $6.99/month or the bundle for $12.99/month, you can watch Mulan today, for “free”. It’s only free because you’re a subscriber.
If you aren’t a subscriber, you can sign up for a free trial of Disney+ by clicking here.
Mulan is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1998 animated film of the same name. Itself based on the Chinese folklore “The Ballad of Mulan”. The film stars Yifei Liu in the title role, alongside Donnie Yen, Tzi Ma, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Ron Yuan, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles. It is directed by Niki Caro, with a screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hynek, and Elizabeth Martin. Plans for a live-action remake began in 2010 but the project stalled in development hell before filming took place in New Zealand and China from August to November 2018. Over the course of production, the film was the subject of several controversies, including changes to the source material and filming in Xinjiang in light of the Uyghur genocide and Xinjiang re-education camps.
You can watch Mulan and plenty of other movies and TV shows on Disney+.
