During its "Launch Night In" event held on September 30, Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G smartphones. The Google Pixel 5, priced at $699, will be available by the end of this month. While pre-orders opened on launch day itself, the Pixel 5 is already out of stock on the Google Store in several markets.
It comes in Just Black and Sorta Sage color options. At the time of writing, both color options are out of stock on its official website in the UK, Germany, France, and Ireland. In France, the device was made available only in Just Black. The Sorta Sage Pixel 5 is the first to go out of stock in other markets.
The Pixel 5 went out of stock in several markets
Unlike in the US, the Pixel 5 will be available in Europe starting October 15. In contrast, the Pixel 4a 5G will first launch in the US before releasing in other parts of the world. And the bundling of the Bose QC 35 II headphones for free further sweetens up the deal in the UK.
Users in the US can still pre-order the device on the Google Store with the shipping date set to the first week of November. The Google Fi version is listed as out of stock though. After several disappointing years, Google finally gave up on the flagship segment with the newly launched Pixel 5.
Looks like Sorta Sage is the most popular color option
However, this new device makes the right compromises to undercut several premium flagships. On the front, it sports a 6-inch hole-punch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz high refresh rate. It is powered by the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G mobile platform.
Like the other 2020 Pixel smartphones, the Pixel 5 also comes in a single storage option. It packs 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 flash storage. The device runs on the latest Android 11 out of the box.
On the rear, there is a 12.2-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, it comes with the same old 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.0 aperture. The device is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
It features a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging. Unlike the Pixel 4a 5G, this device supports Qi wireless charging, reverse wireless charging. The Pixel 5 also comes equipped with stereo speakers but lacks the 3.5mm audio jack. It measures just 8mm in thickness and weighs 151 grams.
