The specs of the Pixel 4a 5G have now also leaked out, after the Pixel 5 specs leaked earlier this week. And it leaves a lot more questions than answers.
This is because the specs are pretty much the same as the Pixel 5. But the Pixel 5 is going to be about $150 more than the Pixel 4a 5G. So how exactly is Google going to market these two different phones? Well, we'll see come September 30.
Pixel 4a 5G Specs
The Pixel 4a 5G is going to come with a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED 60Hz display, with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under-the-hood, there is the Snapdragon 765G chipset, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Camera-wise, it's the same as the Pixel 5. Coming with the same 12.2-megapixel main sensor as every Pixel smartphone ever. But it also comes with the new 16-megapixel ultra-wide sensor that the Pixel 5 will have. The front still boasts that same 8-megapixel sensor too.
It is able to do 4K60 video recording as well, similar to the Pixel 5.
Google did outfit it with a large (for Google anyways) 3880mAh capacity battery. Which is still smaller than the Pixel 5's battery. It'll be made of polycarbonate and there is no IP rating on this one.
It is also taller, wider and thicker than the Pixel 5. The Pixel 4a 5G is coming in at 153.9 x 74 x 8.2mm while the Pixel 5 is 144.7 x 70.4 x 8mm.
The differences between it and the Pixel 5
There are very few differences between these two phones. The Pixel 5 has a smaller 6-inch display, which can run at 90Hz and Gorilla Glass 6. It also ups the RAM to 8GB, and has a larger 4000mAh capacity battery.
The build is also a little bit different, with Google saying it is made from 100% recycled aluminum, whereas the Pixel 4a 5G is made from polycarbonate.
So as you can see the differences are negligible here. And that begs the question, is the Pixel 5 really worth the extra $150 that it is likely going to cost, over the Pixel 4a 5G? The size difference isn't even that large here, it's just .2-inches difference.
We'll see on September 30 how Google decides to market these two devices to make them different from each other. But as of right now, I'd expect the Pixel 4a 5G to be the one that is going to sell a lot better than the Pixel 5. As it's going to have all the features that most people want, including a headphone jack.
